What it's like to be famous

Henlo

Last week was Yvonne’s and my 5th anniversary <3. I am very lucky to have spent the last 5 years of my life in her presence.

To celebrate, we went to King’s Spa in New Jersey and fricken relaxed.

If you don’t have an Yvonne of your own, I highly recommend it. Honestly makes everything so much better. 10/10.

Memories

Last week I posted my third episode of “Memories,” my content series where I draw your memories so that you can relive them once again.

I love this story! It was told by my friend Michael Saintil, who I met at my job. Michael has always been the coolest and kindest guy at the office. Always sharing treats with others and taking the time to chat, joke, and get to know everyone. When I first joined, I was nervous and felt socially awkward/anxious, but Michael created a warm and fun environment that opened me up a lot. It was a real treat to draw his memory.

Michael sent me a bunch of reference photos of the memory to help me with recreating it. He was thorough, from sending me details like the type of car his family drove, the kinda house they lived in, to even photos that showed how each of his family members looked. I was really hoping to do justice by the story.

After showing Michael the final product, I was content with the work. He said it was accurate to the memory and to how he felt at the time, and that was more than enough for me to consider this episode a success. It helps that it went viral too hahahahahaha.

Here is the data I got from this reel:

I really was not expecting this sort of performance. Felt pretty sick. Brought my follower count up to 15k. Nice. I love the attention.

I’m still at it! Currently working on recap content before I start the next episode. Stay tuned 🙂

I don’t recommend comics enough.

Moms by Yeong-shin Ma

Here is a perfect description of the comic, from Drawn and Quarterly, the publisher:

When mahwa artist Yeong-shin Ma was in his twenties, he presented a notebook to his mom. In it he wrote, “If you want your son to find success, write honestly about you and your friends, about your love life and theirs.” In a month, Ma’s mother had completed the notebook front to back, and Ma turned those stories into the riotously funny, palpably human graphic novel, Moms.

It’s such a funny, endearing, and unique story. It got me thinking about the details of my moms life that were never told to me.
