Don't force it!

YOUTUBE

Last Friday, I uploaded a video onto my channel! It was more lowkey and I didn’t try much with marketing or algorithm shiet for this one.

I was in my hometown for Thanksgiving this whole week. Whenever I’m back home, a spell of laziness is cast upon me and I find it hard to do anything productive. It’s like I’m bundled up in my parents’ warm tender love and I can’t help but nap or watch TV on the couch. It was such a wonderful time.

BUT IT WAS HARD TO MAKE A VIDEO! Usually I’m GRINDING on a Youtube video, like 5+ hours per day, so this warm welcoming lazy energy was super conflicting with my goals. During the first few days of the week, I would stress over what kind of video to make and how to get it all done in the midst of family plans. It removed me from fully enjoying my limited time at home.

I thought to make a comic and make a Youtube video about it. “Should be fairly simple, on brand, and not intrusive to my family plans” is what I thought. Wrong. I spent way too much time on the comic, showed it to my family and friends, NOBODY got the joke and they all thought it was weird (which it was).

one day i’ll reveal to show the text to this that made it confusing. not today tho.

I was wasting the rare moments I get to finally be with my family in order to make subpar work. Subpar because I was forcing it. My brain was being aggressively juiced of all it’s ideas/energy and no good Thought Sauce came out. All the brain-wringing was only dribbling small dribblets, not enough for a good idea.

So I decided to scrap the idea and just film random stuff I found in my childhood home. I filmed my family chickens, scanned old yearbooks and photos, and read my sketchbooks from middle school. I tried not to force anything and to just let the environment dictate the content.

And this vlog is what I came out with! I didn’t market the video much because the upload was mostly for me. I made the video to remind myself not to take my work so seriously and to have fun with it.
